Keeping Families Together When It Matters Most
Foundations for Families of the Black Hills is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 93-3411770), originally established in 2023 under the name Family Promise of the Black Hills. We were created to fill a critical gap in local services by providing support that allows families to remain together during periods of homelessness and housing instability. In 2024 we changed our name to Foundatiions For Families of the Black Hills and continue to provide the same great services and more.
Our nonprofit status was officially granted in 2023. Our first family was placed in May 2023 and has remained stably housed since.

Mission
Prevent and end homelessness for families with children, foster independence, and create clear paths toward long-term self-sufficiency.
We work directly with vulnerable families to provide comprehensive case management, housing navigation, and resource coordination, while addressing the root causes of housing instability. Participants work closely with case managers to build lasting stability through goal setting, accountability, and strengthened life skills.
Vision/Goals
Grow from a single office into a larger Family Resource Center where enrolled families can decompress, learn new skills, and build brighter futures.
We remain committed to developing a rotational temporary housing program that serves as a bridge between homelessness and permanent stability, coordinated with local houses of worship.
Impact Through Community and Collaboration
2025: Assisted 55 children and their families in avoiding eviction, exiting homelessness, or securing more suitable stable housing through supportive services and strong provider partnerships.
Since 2023: Connected 100+ families to essential community resources, coordinating warm hand-offs when needs extended beyond our direct services.
We believe ending child homelessness requires a coordinated, community-based response. In 2025, more than 50% of the families we served were referred by local churches, medical professionals, and trusted community partners, including:
